Bangladesh have slipped to their lowest-ever position in the ICC ODI rankings, marking a worrying moment for the national team. Poor performances in recent matches have caused this major drop, leaving fans disappointed and concerned about the team’s future.
A Shocking Fall for the Tigers in One-Day Cricket

Bangladesh, known for playing their best cricket in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), is now facing one of its worst periods in this format. In the latest ICC ODI rankings update, the Tigers have dropped to the 10th position — their lowest in almost 19 years. (More Sports News)
Bangladesh’s Best Format in Trouble
Over the years, Bangladesh achieved its greatest success in ODIs. From reaching the Asia Cup final to making it to the quarter-finals of the 2015 World Cup and semi-finals of the 2017 Champions Trophy, their strongest performances have come in this format.
Because of these good results, BD once climbed up to number 6 in the ICC ODI rankings. However, things have gone downhill in the last year.
Poor Form in the Last Year

In the past year, Bangladesh’s ODI form has been disappointing. They played 8 matches and lost 7 of them. The only victory came against Afghanistan.
Their recent losses have hurt their ranking badly. tiger now stands at number 10 in the latest annual ICC rankings update, behind all other Test-playing nations except Zimbabwe and Ireland.
A Fall Not Seen in 19 Years
The last time tiger was ranked 10th in the ODI rankings was way back in 2006. After that, the Tigers gradually improved and even reached number 6 in 2017. They beat strong teams like India, South Africa, and Pakistan at home, and climbed the ladder.
In 2005, they beat Australia in Cardiff and jumped into the top 10 for the first time. In 2006, they passed Zimbabwe to take 9th place. But now, in 2025, they have dropped to 10th again — a position they hadn’t touched in nearly two decades.
Recent Losses Made Things Worse
The slide in rankings began after Bangladesh lost a home series to Afghanistan in Sharjah in late 2024. That defeat dropped them to number 9. But with no major wins after that, they have now dropped one more spot.
Even teams like England (2019 World Cup winners) are doing badly, but Bangladesh’s decline is steeper. It reflects how the team has been struggling on the field and also losing confidence.
Bangladesh’s Journey in Rankings
After reaching the World Cup quarter-finals in 2015, Bangladesh’s ODI success grew. They beat top teams and reached 6th in May 2017. In 2022, after defeating South Africa in South Africa, they were again ranked 6th. But since then, things have gone in the wrong direction.
Now under captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh will have to work hard to rebuild their reputation in ODI cricket.

Final Thoughts
Bangladesh’s fall to 10th in the ICC ODI rankings is a wake-up call. While they have achieved big things in this format before, the current team needs to regroup, refocus, and return to winning ways. With talent in the squad and experienced players around, a comeback is always possible — but it will require hard work and smart decisions.
