Glenn Maxwell has been fined 25% of his match fee and received one demerit point by IPL officials for a code of conduct breach. The incident occurred during Punjab Kings’ match against Chennai Super Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium in Chandigarh on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s match was a high-scoring thriller for the visitors. Batting first, Punjab Kings posted a formidable total of 219 for 6 in 20 overs, powered by a sensational 103 off 42 balls from young opener Priyansh Arya. Chennai Super Kings put up a strong fight in response but fell short, finishing at 201 for 5. Punjab secured an 18-run victory, though the game also saw all-rounder Glenn Maxwell breach the code of conduct.

In a press release, the IPL stated, “Glenn Maxwell has admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct (striking an object or structure during a match) and has accepted the match referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.”

According to the code, any action outside the normal course of play such as kicking the stumps or damaging advertising boards, dressing room doors, or windows, whether intentionally or negligently is considered a violation. For instance, smashing a board in frustration with a bat would qualify as an offence.

Punjab Kings bounced back to winning form with their victory over Chennai, who had previously lost to Rajasthan Royals. Meanwhile, Chennai suffered their fourth consecutive defeat. As reported by Indian media, Glenn Maxwell, dismissed for just 1 run off 2 balls (caught by Ravichandran Ashwin), stormed back to the dressing room visibly angry. However, the exact details and timing of the incident remain unclear.
