Punjab Kings’ captain Shreyas Iyer played a stunning knock, scoring 52 not out off 30 balls, as his team comfortably defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their IPL 2025 clash on Tuesday. This was Iyer’s second half-century of the season, featuring 3 fours and 4 sixes, as he steered his team to an easy victory.
However, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar believes Shreyas Iyer deserved more credit. While commentating, Gavaskar pointed out that Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the IPL title in 2024 but was released after the season.
Shreyas was the captain when KKR won in 2024, but I don’t think Shreyas Iyer Deserved More Credit he deserved. His leadership record is impressive, said Gavaskar.
PBKS Dominate LSG with All-Round Performance
The match saw Prabhsimran Singh steal the show early on with a blistering 69 off 34 balls, smashing 9 fours and 3 sixes. His aggressive start helped Punjab chase down 172 in just 16.2 overs. Nehal Wadhera (43* off 25) also played a steady hand towards the end.
Punjab’s bowlers set the stage for victory by restricting LSG early. Arshdeep Singh (3/43) led the attack, with strong support from Marco Jansen, Lockie Ferguson, Glenn Maxwell, and Yuzvendra Chahal. LSG struggled at 39/3 in the Powerplay, making the chase a one-sided affair.
With this win, PBKS continue to look strong, while LSG captain Rishabh Pant faces increasing pressure to turn things around.
