Australia is planning a special farewell for Indian cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma during India’s 2025 tour. With no official send-off in India, this could be their final appearance on Australian soil in national colours.
No Farewell in India, But Australia Steps Up
Indian cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from Test cricket during the 2025 IPL season. Surprisingly, the BCCI did not schedule any farewell Test match for them. Their announcement came when India had no Test games lined up, and fans were left disappointed with the silent exit of two of the game’s biggest stars.
But now, Cricket Australia (CA) is considering doing what India didn’t giving the two icons a proper farewell.
India to Tour Australia Later This Year
India is scheduled to tour Australia later in 2025. The tour will include three ODIs and five T20Is, likely marking the last time Kohli and Rohit play in Australia. Since both have retired from Tests and T20s, and are only playing ODIs, this might be one of their final international tours before they consider full retirement after the 2027 World Cup.
After India’s limited-over tour, Australia will begin their famous Ashes series against England, starting a long season of cricket.
Cricket Australia’s Grand Plans
CA’s CEO Todd Greenberg recently spoke about their efforts to make the upcoming season exciting. For the first time in nearly 20 years, every capital city and major region in Aussies will host international cricket matches. To make it even more special, each city will have its own marketing plan.
One of the highlights being considered is a farewell ceremony for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Greenberg said, “This might be the last time we see Kohli and Rohit playing in Aussies . If that’s the case, we definitely want to honour their international careers properly.”
The End of an Era in Cricket
Both Kohli and Rohit have already retired from T20s and Tests, focusing only on ODIs for now. Their final goodbye from cricket is expected to come after the 2027 ODI World Cup.
The upcoming tour to Aussies in October–November 2025 may be the last time fans see them in an Indian jersey on Australian soil. If Cricket Aussies goes ahead with their plan, it could be a beautiful and emotional send-off that these two cricket greats truly deserve.
