Brazil won the Pan Am AirBadminton Cup 2025 by defeating Venezuela in the team relay final held in Lima, Peru on Sunday.
This tournament also acted as the Pan American qualifier for the BWF AirBadminton World Cup, which will take place in the UAE from November 13 to 16. Since the Pan Am region had two spots available, both Brazil and Venezuela have qualified for the World Cup.
At the Pan Am tournament in Lima, Brazil won their group by beating Mexico 60-43 and Guatemala 60-31. Venezuela also topped their group with wins over Peru 60-35 and El Salvador 60-45. In the semi-finals, Brazil defeated El Salvador, while Venezuela overcame Mexico.
Brazilâs win continued their strong run over the past two years. They won the team relay and menâs triples in 2024, and both menâs and womenâs triples in 2023.
âWeâre very happy,â said Brazilâs Tamires Santos. âLast year, we won silver in the womenâs triples, and our menâs team has been champions three times. Weâre excited to be part of this new version of badminton and proud to qualify for the World Cup. Now, weâll train harder and prepare well to do our best.â
âIâm really happy we qualified,â said Mariangel Garcia from Venezuela. âWe worked hard for this and reached our goal. Thanks to everyone in Venezuela and all the fans who supported us online. Now, weâll keep training to represent our country proudly in the UAE.â
El Salvador won the bronze medal by beating Mexico in the third-place match. Both teams have had success at this eventâEl Salvador won womenâs triples gold in 2024, while Mexico took bronze in the same event.
âWe enjoyed every match and worked well as a team,â said Javier Alas from El Salvador. âSupporting each other helped us a lot. Weâre happy with the medal and will keep training to go for gold next time.â
The Pan Am Championships are one of four events that qualify teams for the AirBadminton World Cup. The Africa qualifier will be held from July 3â6, followed by the Asia Pacific Championships (August 8â10 in Malaysia), and the European Championships (September 5â7 in Azerbaijan).
