Liton Stays Calm After Defeats – “It’s Part of the Game”

Bangladesh cricketer Liton Das reacted calmly after the team’s recent series losses, saying defeats are part of the game. He believes such setbacks are normal in cricket and hopes the team will learn from them and come back stronger.

Extra Match Proves Costly for Tigers

Liton Das never imagined that his first series as Bangladesh’s full-time T20 captain would end in disappointment. The team faced a surprising 2-1 series loss to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Sharjah. Originally a two-match series, it was extended to three games because Pakistan’s series was delayed. That extra match turned out to be the decider, and unfortunately, it did not go in Bangladesh’s favor.

After losing the second T20I despite scoring a massive 205 runs, Bangladesh failed to bounce back in the final game. They lost by 7 wickets, giving the series to the UAE. This was a tough result, especially for Liton, who was leading the side for the first time in a full series.

Liton’s Honest Reaction After the Loss

Speaking at the award ceremony after the match, Liton remained calm and humble. He said,

“When I came here, I always thought about winning the match. Losing the series is part of life. When you play cricket, the opponents also play well, and you must give them credit.”

Despite the painful result, Liton did not make excuses. He acknowledged the efforts of the UAE players and accepted the outcome as a learning moment.

Batting Collapse and Dew Factor Hurt Bangladesh

In the third T20I, Bangladesh batted first once again after losing the toss. The start was poor — they lost 8 wickets for just 84 runs. Although the lower order added some runs to push the total to 162 for 9 in 20 overs, it was not enough. The dew in the evening made bowling difficult, giving a clear edge to the UAE batsmen.

Liton mentioned the conditions in his post-match interview.

“We made some mistakes in batting today. On this wicket and in these conditions, we didn’t want to play like this. In all three matches, we had to bat first, and the dew played a major role.”

Dew is a common issue in night games, making the ball slippery and hard to grip for bowlers. This can help the chasing team, and that seemed to happen in this series.

A Rare Defeat to an Associate Nation

This is only the second time Bangladesh has lost a T20 series to an associate member of the ICC. The first such loss came recently against the United States. For a Test-playing country like Bangladesh, these results are concerning and call for deep reflection.

It is also only the second time that UAE has won a T20 series against a Test-playing nation. The first came in 2021 against Ireland. Clearly, the Emirates team is improving, and they showed great spirit and skill to beat a full-member team like Bangladesh.

Liton praised the UAE team again for their performance:

“They played very well, bowled well. But they got the advantage of the dew in batting. They didn’t panic, so credit must be given to them.”

Learning and Moving Forward

While this series defeat is disappointing, Liton’s mature attitude is a good sign for the future. Every team faces ups and downs, and as Liton said, losing is “part of life.” The key now is for the team to learn from their mistakes, adapt to different match situations, and come back stronger in upcoming tournaments.

Fans will hope this early setback in Liton’s captaincy journey becomes a lesson that helps shape a more focused and determined Bangladesh T20 side in the future.
