Guardiola’s Success Praised, But Fans Call for Action
Manchester City fans are asking for help from someone they trust—Pep Guardiola. Several supporter groups have written an open letter to the team’s manager, asking him to talk to the club’s top officials about ticket prices and season-ticket issues. (More Sports News)
The Man City fan groups behind the letter include 1894, MCFC Food Bank Support, Solid Citizens, and Trade Union Blues. These fans congratulated Guardiola for leading City to the FA Cup final after beating Nottingham Forest 2-0, but they also had a serious request: lower the costs for fans and make more season tickets available.
Man City Fans Feel the Pressure of High Ticket Costs
In their letter, the fans reminded Pep that he once said he understands the struggles fans face due to rising living costs. They said they were happy he recognized that fans are under pressure, and that he values a loud, passionate crowd rather than a quiet one.
“Pep, congratulations on reaching another final at Wembley,” the letter began. “Before the Forest game, you said you know fans are struggling with money. We’re glad you understand. You also said you want the fans to be loud and full of life in the stadium.”
The letter continued: “With that in mind, we ask you to do us one more favor. Please speak to your friend, the club’s CEO Ferran Soriano.”
Fans Want More Affordable Season Tickets
The Man City fans talked about how the Etihad Stadium will soon grow, with 8,000 more seats being added next season. They said this is a great time to bring back proper season tickets for loyal fans and their families. They worry that too few fans can afford tickets now, and the link between generations—parents taking their kids, and kids growing up to bring their own families—is being broken.
The fans explained that when supporters can’t go to matches, the club often can’t resell the tickets because the prices are too high. They believe more affordable tickets would keep the stands full and loud, creating the kind of home atmosphere that Guardiola himself wants.
Man City Fans Protest Ticket Prices During Leicester Match
This isn’t the first time City fans have protested high prices. Earlier this month, during a match against Leicester City, thousands of supporters stayed in the concourse (area behind the seats) for the first nine minutes of the game to make their voices heard.
Just over a week later, Manchester City announced that season-ticket prices will be frozen for the 2025–26 season. That means prices won’t increase next year, which is the first time in ten years the club has done this.
But many fans still think that’s not enough. Loukas Gregory, a member of the 1894 fan group, said the price freeze is just the “bare minimum” the club should be doing to support its fans.
Man City Fans Hope for Cheaper Match Tickets
The club has now scheduled meetings with more fan groups to talk about ticket prices and availability. These talks will take place later this week, and supporters hope they can convince the club to make bigger changes.
Manchester City are currently in fourth place in the Premier League and will play again on Friday night, hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium.
While City continue to compete for trophies, many of their fans hope the club will also take steps to make sure watching football doesn’t become too expensive for regular supporters.
