Bangladesh: Shadman Makes History with Century in 1000th Test!

Bangladesh’s Shadman made history by scoring a brilliant century in the country’s 1000th Test match. His outstanding performance helped celebrate the milestone in style, earning praise from fans and teammates as a symbol of pride for the nation.

Shadman Finally Scores His Second Test Century

Shadman Islam had been waiting a long time for another Test century. The left-handed Bangladeshi opener came close many times but always missed the mark. In August last year, he was dismissed for 93 runs against Pakistan in Rawalpindi—just 7 runs short of a century. After that, he managed to score three half-centuries, but a hundred remained out of reach. (More Sports News)

Finally, on Tuesday in Chittagong, Shadman reached his second Test century. He had to wait through 26 innings since his first hundred, which came in Harare back in 2021. Interestingly, both of his Test centuries have come against Zimbabwe.

At the time this report was written, Bangladesh had scored 183 runs for 1 wicket in 49 overs, and Shadman was still at the crease.

Zimbabwe Bowled Out Quickly on Day Two

Earlier in the day, Zimbabwe started their innings at 227 for 9 at the Birshreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chittagong. They hoped to add a few more runs to their total, but Bangladesh ended their innings quickly.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam struck on the first ball of the day, dismissing Blessing Muzarabani. The Zimbabwean batter was caught behind by wicketkeeper Zaker Ali, after a strong appeal by the Bangladeshi players. Although the umpire first said “not out,” he changed his decision after reviewing the appeal. Zimbabwe’s innings ended at 227 runs without adding any to their overnight score.

Shadman and Enamul Put Bangladesh in Control

After bowling out Zimbabwe, Bangladesh made an excellent start with the bat. Openers Shadman Islam and Enamul Haque Bijoy gave the team a solid opening stand of 118 runs.

Shadman looked confident from the beginning, playing both pace and spin with ease. He took his time, rotated the strike well, and punished any loose balls. His focus and patience finally paid off as he reached the long-awaited century.

His batting showed maturity, and it was clear that he was determined not to miss out this time. Fans in the stadium cheered loudly as he raised his bat to celebrate the milestone.

Bijoy Misses His First Fifty

While Shadman was shining at one end, Enamul Haque Bijoy was also showing promise. He looked solid during his innings and played carefully. He made 39 runs off 80 balls, which became his highest score in Test cricket.

However, just when it seemed like he might score his first fifty, he was trapped LBW by Blessing Muzarabani. Bijoy took a review, but the decision was not overturned. He had to walk back, clearly disappointed.

Before this innings, Bijoy’s highest Test score was 23, which he made against the West Indies in June 2022. After that, he was dropped from the national red-ball team. His current innings showed improvement, and he will hope to build on this performance in the future.
